# UOB Sells UOBAM to Allianz Global Investors for S$555 Million
UOB Group has agreed to sell UOB Asset Management (UOBAM) to Allianz Global Investors (AGI), pairing the exit with a long-term deal for AGI to distribute investment products through UOB's own wealth network.

## UOB Sells UOBAM to Allianz Global Investors for S$555 Million

UOB Group and Allianz Global Investors confirmed on August 5, 2026 that AGI has agreed to acquire UOBAM, UOB's asset-management arm, in a transaction covering UOBAM's operations across eight Asian markets: Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, according to [UOB's own announcement of the transaction terms](https://www.hubbis.com/news/uob-advances-wealth-ambitions-with-strategic-distribution-partnership-with-allianz-global-investors). Reuters put the deal's value at roughly US$433.5 million, per [Reuters' report confirming the deal value](https://www.reuters.com/legal/transactional/singapores-uob-shed-asset-management-arm-4335-million-focus-wealth-management-2026-08-05/), which UOB states as S$555 million.

Excluding one-off transaction costs, UOB expects the sale to generate a pre-tax gain of approximately S$330 million and to lift the Group's CET1 capital ratio by an estimated 14 basis points. UOBAM held about S$42 billion in assets under management as of December 31, 2025, and the unaudited pro forma net asset value attributable to the stake sold was S$223 million. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval in every market UOBAM operates in and is expected to close in 2027.

All 500 UOBAM employees across the region are set to move to AGI, which has committed to maintaining their employment and offering them a role on a larger global platform. Until the deal closes, UOBAM's operations continue unchanged, and customers can keep investing in and redeeming their existing UOBAM funds without disruption.

## Forty-Year-Old Asset Manager Changes Hands as UOB Sharpens Wealth Focus

UOBAM has been part of UOB Group for 40 years, growing into what AGI calls one of Southeast Asia's leading asset managers. The sale comes as UOB frames the move as part of a broader shift toward what it calls an "open-architecture" wealth model — one where the bank advises and distributes rather than manufactures every product it sells. Deputy Chairman and CEO Wee Ee Cheong said the partnership "sharpens our focus on wealth advisory and distribution," language that signals a deliberate narrowing of what UOB itself builds versus what it sources externally.

For AGI, the acquisition is described as adding UOBAM's Southeast Asian investment expertise to its global platform, which AGI said would bring the assets it manages for Asia-Pacific clients to more than €170 billion. AGI CEO Tobias Pross framed the deal as giving the firm "deeper market connectivity" in Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, and additional scale in markets where it already operates, including Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia.

## Sale-and-Distribution Structure Lets UOB Exit Manufacturing While Keeping Client Access

The transaction is not a clean divestment. UOB is selling ownership of UOBAM outright, but the agreement also establishes what both companies describe as a long-term strategic distribution partnership, under which AGI's investment products will be made available through UOB's network to a customer base UOB puts at more than 8 million people across ASEAN. That structure lets UOB step back from running an asset-management manufacturing business — with its associated capital and operational demands — while still capturing distribution economics from the funds its former subsidiary, now under AGI, continues to produce.

This is a different shape from a typical outright sale, where the seller's ongoing relationship with the business ends at closing. Here, UOB's stated rationale is about where it wants to compete: advice and distribution, not fund manufacturing. Wee said the deal lets UOB "accelerate wealth management growth while enhancing long-term shareholder value," a framing that treats the S$330 million pre-tax gain and CET1 uplift as capital UOB can now redeploy toward wealth advisory rather than asset-management infrastructure. Whether that redeployment produces faster wealth-revenue growth than continuing to own UOBAM is not something the announcement addresses, and neither company has disclosed the commercial terms of the distribution agreement itself, including its duration or exclusivity.

```
The deal still needs regulatory sign-off in every market UOBAM operates in before it can close, and until then UOBAM continues to run as it does today. What's already fixed is the shape of the arrangement: UOB gives up ownership of a 40-year-old asset manager, books a capital gain and a capital-ratio boost, and keeps a contractual line back into the products that manager will keep producing under new ownership.
